TALON Grips Launches New Smith and Wesson M&P Shield Grip

What promoted the idea of a new Shield grip design?
The original Shield grip is a few years old, and we believe that the overall integrity of our designs has only improved with time. We believe that the new design’s aesthetics are as good as or better than the original with improved ease of application as well as increased durability.
What were you trying to accomplish with the new design?
The original grip was designed in the first half of 2012 and has basically been a top seller ever since. This was one of our first grips utilizing our modern manufacturing capabilities. Prior to this designs were made simple enough to be die cut. By laser cutting the materials we were no longer confined to the bending of the metal to form the dies. We now have limitless design capabilities.
How is the new Shield grip different?
- The new grip features a continuous piece along the lower part of the backstrap from the left side to the right.
- We contoured the left front side of the grip along the factory line on the left side panel of the grip to make installation a breeze.
- The new grip is more durable.
- The TALON T is in a new location.
Was the new grip challenging to design?
I am a fan of the aesthetic that the original grip created on the gun so I was a bit intimidated at the idea of a redesign. Not to mention we have had users tell us that the original grips have lasted 3+ years. I knew the redesign was going to have to be amazing.
Where would you rank this grip design among the hundreds of grips you’ve designed?
This grip is special to me as it has been among our top selling grips since it was first released. This firearm is very popular and I believe that this is my favorite design that I have done. When you look at the grip itself, the lines are quite stunning, and when you install it on the firearm, it is truly a piece of art… although my opinion may be a bit biased.
