TALON Grips Introduces Rubber Moss Grips

STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colorado (November 14, 2016) – TALON Grips introduces Moss colored rubber grips to their industry leading line of adhesive backed firearm grips.

Moss is the first custom colored rubber grip added to the TALON Grips line. The new color enables TALON Grips users to customize the look of their firearms while improving their interface with the firearm for better performance.

All TALON Grips firearm specific grip designs will be available in Moss. The new product rollout will be graduated by brand to allow for production time. Initially the grips will be available directly from TALON Grips. Moss grips will be available to TALON Retailers beginning February 1, 2017.

The introduction of Moss is the result of customer demand. Flat Dark Earth (FDE) and Olive Drab (OD) are preferred colors in tactical and military circles which has driven demand in the private sector. With many manufacturers producing FDE and OD firearms, Moss is TALON Grips answer to the popularity of FDE.

TALON Grips received numerous samples of FDE, OD, Tan, and Grey from leading firearm manufacturers throughout the development of the new Moss color. TALON Grips Moss is not intended to match any particular manufacturer’s version of FDE.  “Our goal was to create a color that would complement as many manufacturers’ color interpretations as possible.  “We tested the color alongside most major manufacturers FDE and OD and believe customers will be as pleased with the color combinations as we are,” said Michael Morris.

With the introduction of the new color grips TALON Grips will be expanding its offerings from over 400 products to over 600 products.

TALON Hero- Kevin Kolvereid

Our spotlight this month is a well-deserved focus on our very own Kevin Kolvereid, or KC, as many of you know him.

Kevin enlisted in the Army at 22, following in the footsteps of his father who was a military OBGYN in various places around the world including Japan, Italy, France, Germany, and Southern Spain before landing in the DC area.  After basic training and his advanced individual training course, Kevin made the Special Forces selection and went on to become an 18-D (18-Delta Special Forces Medic) where he served for 10 years around the world.

Since leaving the military, Kevin has devoted his professional life to medicine.  He has been a physician’s assistant for 28 years, first in trauma medicine in DC and Cincinnati, and then in orthopedics in Colorado.  Most recently, Kevin has worked with a rural medicine surgical team that flies to various locations throughout Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming performing surgeries which patients would otherwise have to travel to urban areas to receive.  Often, the team performs as many as 8-11 surgeries per day.

When KC is not practicing medicine, he is an instructor of tactical medical for SWAT teams and military teams worldwide preparing for tours.  He is also a certified firearms instructor for both LE and civilians.

Like so many talented people, his accomplishments go on and on.  Kevin can “get by” in 4 languages, has been playing bagpipes since 1989, and has been a drummer for 40 years.  He played in DC bands during his younger years, and now plays in The Brian Smith Band.  Prior to joining the military, he graduated from The Culinary Institute of America.  He cooked professionally for some years, but now those skills are reserved for family and friends -lucky us!  He started brewing his own beer in 1989 and making wine in 1996.  He’s also a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and has worked with both the Olympic Boxing and Olympic Ski Teams…Exhale!

Most importantly, Kevin has been married to his wife, Gina, since 1992 and they have 3 wonderful children, Kris, Ellie, and Jon. (4 if you include his 130 pound Bernese Mountain Dog, Watson)

We met Kevin at the orthopedics office with one of our many injuries, but we really got to know him when he instructed various firearms courses we took 4 years ago.  We invited him back to the Talon Grips office after the class to show him around, and he was instantly a believer.  For four years, Kevin has been an unwavering supporter of Talon Grips, bringing valuable perspective to the company and unrivaled energy.  If you have met us at SHOT Show or NTOA, you likely remember and came back year after year to see Kevin.  He’s that memorable guy.  The one you feel like you have known forever, even though you just met him.

Last October Kevin was blindsided by the news that he had Glioblastoma Multiform, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Being the warrior that he is, KC has fought as hard as anyone can. The fight is not only mentally, physically, and emotionally draining but also a financial burden. The Chatham County NC Sheriff’s Office Reviews TALON Grips

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in the TALON Grips T&E Program and reviewed TALON Grips on their duty weapons. Following is their feedback:

“I received the above item (TALON Grip) for a test evaluation for our large handgun option as well as our concealed carry option for our covert units. We received both the rubber and the granulate version. The test weapons were Glock 22 and 43 both Gen4.

Due to the different stock grips of each gun and the nature of how same is carried the Talon grip choice should be pretty obvious. The Glock 43 is an IWB gun that has very little texture to the stock grip. In the situation I preferred the rubber Talon grip. ”

TALON Grips Staff Participate in Manic Rx Taskforce Challenge

The staff at TALON Grips participated in the Manic Rx Taskforce Challenge to raise money for the Mark McManus foundation. The Mark McManus Foundation’s goal is to raise awareness about the risks associated with prescription drug use, misuse and addiction.

The event was a great time for all and over $19,000 was raised.

How We Celebrate Labor Day

Archery season, it’s a time of year we talk about and look forward to with rabid enthusiasm. We run up and down mountains to get in shape,  get firewood for the winter, and get caught up on the honey do list to make sure we can justify the extra time spent out of the house. Wives become archery widows and we don’t see our kids as much as we would like because of one thing, archery hunting.

The addiction is fed by the challenge, being on a primal mission, and spending time outside during the most beautiful time of year. Although harvesting an animal is far from guaranteed archery season is incredibly satisfying.

We all agree what makes archery hunting so special isn’t the just hunt but the experiences you have in nature with all kinds of wildlife, not just what you’re hunting.  Some of my favorite and most memorable archery seasons haven’t ended in harvesting an animal but are packed full of incredible experiences in nature.

As of the writing of this post none of the hunters in the office have harvested any big game however one grouse has been bagged.

Get outside and enjoy the outdoors!
